Five Geese 2006 Old Vine Grenache Shiraz

Variety:   Grenache 80% (79 year old bush vines, dry grown), Shiraz 20% (19 year old vines)

Region:    McLaren Vale, 100% Sub-region:  Blewitt Springs

Colour:  A very attractive Cherry-red colour.

Nose:  Lifted and fresh - Raspberry perfume - Very obviously Grenache. This wine highlights the Grenache characteristics.

Palate:  The 2006 five geese Grenache Shiraz has a flavoursome palate with soft, rich berry flavours.The Grenache characters of this wine are highlighted, with the 20% Shiraz adding to the complexity and playing a complementary  role. We are extemely pleased with this classic expression of Grenache.

Oak: Aged 1 Year in second and third use American oak hogsheads.

Analysis:    Alc/Vol:  14.5%; pH:  3.34; TA: 6.40; SO2 Free 30/Total 78; VA:  0.55.

Aging Potential: This wine will develop with careful medium-term cellaring.

Food Ideas:  This variety has excellent food compatibility. The soft tannin structure, red fruit flavours and medium body make it versatile, but ideally suited to meat dishes, or full flavoured fish that has had roasting or grilling preparation.
