Five Geese 2005 Shiraz The 2005 five geese Shiraz exhibits an elegant palate with the Shiraz spice. There is poised, bright, sweet fruit in the middle palate and a long finish. This then lingers well with a typical spicy liquorice, almost peaty, Blewitt Springs character. During the 2005 growing season, Blewitt Springs had three major rain events in Spring and early Summer. These well timed rain events provided excellent soil moisture, which enabled vine growth to be healthy, with canopies ideal for fruit set. January and February were mild and dry with perfect ripening conditions. This was followed by a warm and dry Autumn which accelerated ripening and produced Shiraz with excellent colour and flavours. Variety: Shiraz, 100% Region: McLaren Vale, 100% - Sub-region: Blewitt Springs Colour: A very attractive deep crimson red Nose: Spicy; brambles with ripe berry complexity and well integrated but not obvious oak. Oak: Aged 24 months in new and second use American oak hogsheads. Bottled in March 2007. Analysis: Alc/Vol 14.77%; pH: 3.39; TA: 7.25; SO2: Free 24/Total 96; VA 0.63 Aging Potential: This wine has been carefully crafted for immediate drinking, but the excellent structure and weight of this wine indicates that it will benefit from time in the cellar. Winemaker: Mike Farmilo Viticulturists: Sue Trott and Jonathon Trott
